Back-to-School preparation for most children is an exciting time. Not so for many foster and at-risk children. Temple Beth El of South Orange County does not stand idly by when it comes to philanthropy. This August will be our 5th annual CHILDSPREE!
What is Childspree?
Childspree is an unforgettable opportunity for congregants to personally make a difference in the lives of 50 foster and at-risk children by providing them with the essentials to start the school year prepared. This includes new clothing and a backpack filled with school supplies, including those needed for remote learning. These are normally given at an in-person breakfast and shopping trip at Macy’s in Mission Viejo. In light of COVID-19 and social distancing guidelines, we must modify our in-person event set for August 16. We will continue to follow CDC recommendations and more information will be provided as we get closer to the event date.
How can I be involved?
There are many ways you can help get these kids ready for an A+ school year. You can easily donate money, be a Shopping Buddy or volunteer*, or do both! Shopping buddies will get acquainted to one child virtually via Zoom, and then will go on an online shopping trip at Macys.com. Other volunteers will help prepare backpacks, answer technical questions, and provide set-up, clean-up, and support if we are able to meet in-person on August 16.
There are very specific dates that shopping Buddies will need to be available for due to COVID restrictions. Please see guidelines below before committing to be a Shopping Buddy.
*We have a limited number of spaces for Shopping Buddies and Volunteers. We will update once we have hit those numbers to offer other ways to help.
